Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Announced

Categories: News

Gamers everywhere can finally rejoice, as Sega has unveiled their secret Project Needlemouse to be Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The game will be released in episodic format, with the first episode being released in Summer 2010 for the XBLA, PSN, Wiiware, and a mystery system. Hopefully that mystery system will turn out to be either a new Sega system, or even better, a version of the game designed for play on the Genesis. Check out the official site here .

Phoenix Wright Coming to WiiWare

In the latest issue of Famitsu — a Japanese gaming magazine — it was announced the critically acclaimed Phoenix Wright series would be heading to WiiWare in an episodic format. The games are unfortunately ports of the DS games, so hopefully they can add some incentive for people to repurchase it.

For people who haven’t played the Phoenix Wright series on DS, this has to be a must-buy. The Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice series is one of the most innovative new I.P.s on the DS, and should be sure to sell quite nicely. Hopefully it doesn’t lose the charm the DS version had.

A few weeks ago, Nintendo announced they were planning on releasing Wiiware demos in Japan. Well earlier today — which is the day that Nintendo releases new Wiiware and VC games — Nintendo without warning released demos for five Wiiware games, listed after the jump. (more…)

Although this comes as no surprise, Capcom announced in a press release earlier today that the previously Japan-only Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition is coming out in America and Europe. The interesting part about this news is that this new content will be released in the form of DLC, which was apparently determined after Capcom polled gamers about if they would rather have the new content be released as a disc or just DLC. Capcom did not announce when it would be released, aside from the tentative “spring” release date.

This is a very smart move by Capcom, in my opinion. For all of us who already own the game, purchasing the new content became a lot more lucrative, as we can just download it from the comfort of our home. Capcom just better hope the new content is worth paying for!

CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, recently announced that Nintendo is planning on offering “WiiWare demos” for certain games sometime this month. This program is used to bring more attention to the Wii Shop Channel, which, according to Iwata, is only used by people who know what game(s) they’d like to purchase. It was not mentioned which country the service would be offered to, but you can most likely assume it’s Japan.

This is a smart move for Nintendo, because whether you like them or not, they have been a little bit behind on some things. It’s nice to see they are trying to make consumers’ lives easier, as buying games on WiiWare without even being able to try them could be considered risky.

For all of you that own King of Fighters XII on the 360, your online woes are no more! SNK has finally released a patch for the 360 that fixes the online woes gamers were having on XBL. The ironic thing is that this patch has been out for the PS3 for some time now, but with Microsoft’s difficult policy for putting patches on games, 360 owners should just be relieved that they finally got the patch.

Personally, it’s times like these when I wonder if developers beta test their games at all. If they did any sort of online testing whatsoever, I’m sure they would’ve seen these glaring problems that were shipped to retailers along with the “finished” game.

Recently there had been a rumor that Nintendo was going to release a successor to the DSi next year. Well in the meantime, it has been discovered Nintendo will be re-releasing the DSi in Japan later this year. There are going to be no changes to the model, except for larger 4″ screens. It will cost the same amount as the DSi does now, and should be released in Japan later this year. Release elsewhere is still being discussed, but expect it to eventually make its way over to other countries soon enough.

I’m not sure about you guys, but even I am starting to get tired of all these re-releases of consoles. The DS is on its 4th iteration now. Isn’t it time to stop sucking cash out of the consumers’ pocket, Nintendo?

Sony Patents Strange New Controller

gam_sonycontroller_580
So it seems that lately Sony has been trying to develop another Wii-esque controller. Even though their new motion controller is a long way from being released, it appears Sony won’t remain idle for long. Recently, it was discovered by Siliconera that Sony had filed a patent for a rod-like controller. Not much is mentioned in the patent, and it is doubtful this controller will ever see the light of day. Still, it’s interesting to see what Sony had in mind for the future.
